If you ask any tenured New York Giants or Jets fan, they’ll tell you they prefer the old Giants Stadium over its successor, MetLife Stadium, when it comes to viewing a football game.
The old stadium may have had fewer amenities, but it filled the bill when it came to focusing the crowd on the main reason they were in attendance: To enjoy a football game.
That aside, the 80,000-plus-seat MetLife has become one of America’s top venues for both sports and entertainment events.
In a recent ranking from FOX Sports, MetLife Stadium checked in as the 10th most “iconic” of all NFL stadiums.
New Jersey’s MetLife Stadium — which opened in 2010, replacing Giants Stadium — is home to both the Giants and the Jets. The multipurpose stadium with a capacity of over 82,500 is located at the Meadowlands Sports Complex, which is set to host the final of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, just outside New York City.
It doesn’t help that the new Stadium has not had much in the way of high-profile games other than Super Bowl XLVIII in 2014.
The Jets have yet to play a postseason game at MetLife, and the Giants have hosted just one – a 2011 Wild Card game against the Atlanta Falcons, a 24-2 victory.
