Global Cues
Asia-Pacific markets traded mixed on Friday as US stock futures hovered near the flatline after the Thanksgiving holiday, with the Nasdaq Composite set to snap its seven-month winning streak.
Investors tracked Tokyo’s inflation data, a key indicator for Japan’s broader price trends. Headline inflation in Tokyo eased slightly to 2.7 percent in October from 2.8 percent in September, while core inflation — excluding fresh food but including energy — edged up to 2.8 percent, marginally above the 2.7 percent estimate by economists polled by Reuters.
Japan’s Nikkei 225 slipped 0.15 percent at the open, while the Topix remained largely unchanged. South Korea’s Kospi declined 0.61 percent, while Australia’s S&P/ASX 200 traded marginally higher.
In the US, overnight futures activity was muted. Dow Jones futures rose 10 points, while S&P 500 and Nasdaq 100 futures hovered just above the flatline.
Major US indices are on track for a weak November, weighed down by a pullback in technology stocks amid renewed concerns over the earnings outlook for artificial intelligence-linked companies.
US markets were closed on Thursday due to Thanksgiving and will operate in a shortened session on Friday.
